The degree program in Nursing produces health professionals trained to provide general nursing assistance and to perform an essential service which enhances and improves individual communicative and interpersonal skills. Students will become health professionals with a solid training in the areas of clinical practice, assistive care, interpersonal relationships, and education. The solid university preparations will train graduates to perform important responsibilities and will also guarantee them a secure and stable future.

Course content

The training of professional nurses includes the study of theory as well as clinical and practical applications. Basic course work focuses on the area of nursing which deals with methods for responding to the needs of patients with health problems both at a general care level and also with respect to specific applications to different branches of medicine. Courses range from anatomy to nursing, from cardiology to psychology, and from English to IT training. The Modena Campus offers a program which focuses on health and safety promotion, therapeutic relationships, nursing in medicine, surgery, paediatrics, emergency rooms, therapeutic education and management of pain. The teaching methods combine lectures and interactive activities (facilitated group works). A clinical placement in public or private structures of the local area is part of the program. Students will be supervised by training and university mentors. Before and during placements, students will practice in well-equipped teaching laboratories with mannequins and other instructional aids, which simulates the nursing practices the students have been taught in theory. LLP/Erasmus exchange programs will also allow students to 12 weeks on clinical placement at European Universities, such as in Spain, the Netherlands; Sweden and Finland.

Career options

Upon completion of the three-year program, students will be granted a nursing degree, qualifying them as health professionals responsible for general nursing assistance in disease prevention and direct care to patients of all ages. The nursing degree implies accreditation with the College of Nurses, which is required in order to practice nursing. Nurses can work for private or public health institutions, in local clinics, or in the home care sector, both as employees or as self- employed practitioners.

After the degree

Upon completion of the three-year degree, students can pursue further professional studies such as the second-cycle degree in Nursing Sciences and Obstetrics, and short vocational Master programmes
