Presentation

There are many reasons for choosing the degree program in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering. First of all, a degree in Engineering offers excellent job prospects – 78% of engineering graduates in Italy find employment within one year of graduating, compared to 62% of the total number of university graduates. The job prospects of graduates in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (most of whom finish within three years) are even better, as numbers are not sufficient to meet the demand of local companies. This is largely due to the fact that current electronics, telecommunications and industrial automation technologies have played a fundamental role in the development of the modern world. It is important to remember that i) the majority of today’s manufactured products are dependent on electronics and are produced using methods of industrial automation; ii) and the use of modern communication techniques is extremely widespread in our society.

Course content

The main objective of the degree program in Electronic Engineering is to provide students with a good command of general scientific methods and content. Specifically, the course work is aimed at acquiring the knowledge of mathematics and other essential sciences (physics, chemistry, and basic computer science) necessary to analyze and solve different engineering and information problems, particularly in the sectors of electronics and telecommunications of automated controls. Therefore, these subjects form a base for a solid understanding of specific disciplines such as electronic devices and circuits, electronic measurement, industrial automation, signal processing, modern communication techniques, and telecommunications systems and networks. Consequently, the ultimate goal of the instructional program is to prepare professionals who are equipped with basic competencies in the sector of modern electronics technology.

Career options

Graduates in Electronic Engineering are professionals who possess a solid background in the basic sciences, with essential competencies in computer science and in automatic controls, and with specialized professional knowledge in electronics and telecommunications. The wealth of knowledge and skills acquired during the three-year program prepare graduates for direct entry positions, particularly in the following sectors: manufacturing and installation companies, management of infrastructures and service providers, public utility companies, and service, planning, and consulting enterprises. Graduates can also work in varying settings, such as production and management, either as self-employed professionals or for public and private companies.
