Presentation

The degree programme in “Innovation Design” is taught in English and has only 40 places available. It is an interuniversity course between the University of Ferrara (Faculties of Architecture and Engineering) and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Faculty of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” and Faculty of Engineering Sciences and Methods). The programme builds on the indications deriving from national and international stakeholders and from an overview of existing study programmes at national and international level. The aim is that of creating a unique educational profile that is not available elsewhere.

Course content

The course includes the following areas of study: 1. “Innovation design for human needs”: this area provides students with the competences, methods and instruments for the development of innovative design projects, based on people's needs. Students also learn how to work in multidisciplinary teams. 2. “Innovation engineering”: this area provides students with the competences, methods and instruments for the development of technological solutions and production processes enabling the concrete sustainability and creation of the innovative products and services. The course also aims at training students in quantitative project assessment and in the collaboration with the industrial sector. 3. “Innovation management”: this area provides students with the competences, methods and instruments for scenario and market analysis, the definition of strategies and project management of innovative products and services. It also aims at enabling students to develop both an understanding of, and the skills to collaborate with, the bodies and organizations that favour entry to the market and the areas of society that products and services are designed for. 4. “Synthesis”: this area provides students with the technical methods and strategies for the integrated application of the competences and instruments acquired during the Programme, with a view to completing the project representing their final assignment. Students can access three parallel final synthesis labs strongly linked by the business history of the area involved: Educational technology innovation (Reggio Emilia), Mobility innovation (Modena) and Health and wellness innovation (Ferrara). In these labs, students will have the opportunity to work in real-life situations and verify their self-management and planning skills.
