Description

The PhD program teaches students how to develop an independent research project that address scientific questions related to revelant topics in the field of Biomedicine. Students will be trained to design experiments to understand the molecular mechanism underlying human diseases such as cancer and hereditary disorders, as well as to develop novel therapeutic approaches.

The PhD program in Molecular and Regenerative Medicine includes two scientific curricula dealing with the following topics:
1) Molecular and Regenerative Medicine
a. Cellular and animal models of human diseases;
b. Regulatory mechanisms of gene expression;
c. Disease pathophysiology and molecular diagnostics;
d. Tissue morphology and histopathology diagnostics;
e. Applied bioinformatics;
f. Experimental oncology;
g. Innovative therapeutics in molecular medicine (gene therapy, regenerative medicine);
h. Tissue engeenering.

2) Nanotechnologies and Modeling for Industrial Biomedical Applications.
a. Biosensors
b. Materials for implantable organic bioelectronics
c. Molecular modelling
d. neuroelectronic interfaces
e. Structural studies on health-relevant proteins proteins

To develop the studentís scientific background through the combination of course-work and research activities, students will be offered classes covering a broad range of scientific topics related to the research conducted by scientists in the PhD Program in Molecular and Regenerative Medicine. Seminars and lectures given by outstanding scientists are part of the teaching program.
During the first six months of the first year, students have the option of conducting short-term rotation projects in several different laboratories. The goal of these rotation projects is to expose students to a broad range of research topics and to facilitate their selection of a laboratory in which to carry out their thesis research project.
During the second year students will be asked to write a mock research grant proposal to apply for a one-year pre-doctoral fellowship.
