Italian second level degree (laurea specialistica, under D.M. 509/99 or laurea magistrale, under D.M. 207/04) or Italian degree obtained prior to D.M. 509/99 or equivalent qualification obtained abroad.

Description

The PhD course in Human Sciences: studies on language and literature, history and philosophy, communication and digital culture aims at developing advanced skills in future researchers in the fields of Language Studies, Narratology, Modern and Contemporary History and Philosophy, Intercultural Education and Communication, Pedagogy and teaching methodology, so that qualified Doctors acquire multiple competences and prove to be able to:
- design and manage educational projects in different contexts;
- contribute to a wide range of cultural and social initiatives, public and private, in Italy and abroad, ranging from the field of publishing (planning, translation, editing) to that of public or corporate communication (strategies and assessment);
- make use of the new competences and methods of the Digital Humanities (DH).

Training will enable qualified Doctors to participate in the design, implementation and management of projects related to translation and linguistic or cultural mediation, tools for language services (dictionaries, corpora, data-bases), educational processes and practices, cultural or conservation/heritage activities, theoretical and empirical current issues in religions, philosophy, history, sociology. As for DH, the acquired competences will include the development of resources for research in the humanities (archives, data bases and corpora), the development and use of new digital technologies for the analysis of data and multimodal/multimedia communication, and studies on communication in the new media and new ways of accessing knowledge. Special attention is paid to methodology and general skills.

Career Opportunities

Qualified Doctors in Human Sciences: studies on language and literature, history and philosophy, communication and digital culture will possess the set of competences necessary to join in several professions, public and private, in the fields of academic research, education, publishing, public and business communication, museum networks, in Italy and abroad.

More in detail, they will be professionals eligible for the implementation and management of projects and schemes in the following sectors/areas: education and learning, learning processes and difficulties (including diagnosis and therapy of learning disturbance), lifelong learning, prevention, remedial, integration and cross-cultural projects; linguistic and cultural translation/mediation and negotiation in publishing, international business, community services, cooperation, scientific journalism; cultural or museum institutions, associations, foundations (public or private) for the conservation and divulgation of cultural heritage; design and implementation of tools for language services (dictionaries, corpora, data-bases); academic research on theoretic and empirical current issues in religions, philosophy, history, sociology, as well as applied research in the field of intercultural communication.

As for the DH component, attention to innovative projects will contribute to their awareness of technological, educational and cultural innovation.
