Description

Description

The Course is organized in 3 curricula: Public health; Translational medicine; Nanomedicine, Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Curricula/Thematic areas

Further information on research lines for each curriculum and the relative possible supervisor is available on the PhD Course website http://www.cem-phdschool.unimore.it/

Educational goals

a) To train PhD graduates able to translate into applied research the major clinical problems concerning the clinical topics covered by the Course. PhD students will acquire the theoretical and practical basis for future research careers in public or private health institutions as well as in the industry.
b) To graduate highly qualified PhD students, able to conduct research activities leading to the design, identification and synthesis of new drugs and biologically active molecules. PhD students will also develop specific skills in planning, evaluating and monitoring specific experimental research projects, based on a deep knowledge about the application of a broad spectrum of standard and innovative technologies.
c) To allow PhD students to be fully involved in international research by a multidisciplinary education, enriched by the possibility to be trained for a short period in various national or international research institutes in which to learn the use of specific technologies. So, PhD students will have the opportunity to carry out the research program in a different teaching and working context as well as to refine fluency of the English language.
d) To graduate PhD students that might achieve a complete independence in designing their own research activities on the pathogenesis and treatment of human diseases, by using the most appropriate methods to identify the most specific scientific tools among the wide array of currently available technologies, animal models and approaches.

Professional perspectives

PhD graduates could be hired in public institutions dedicated to research in fundamental and applied science, such as universities, research institutes or research hospitals and health services. PhD graduates may also develop their career in private institutions or enterprises specialized in the development of high-tech products. The graduates will be trained to compete both in national and international institutions, such as the previously mentioned ones. They will also be able to maintain collaborative relationships with the original laboratories of UNIMORE.

In details, PhD graduates may be hired in:
- Public organizations:
a) Institutes and laboratories of the national health system and health services, in which the PhD graduate is expected to work as the PI of research projects and as the responsible for qualified laboratories.
b) International and/or Italian centers, in which the PhD graduate is expected to be employed as lecturer/professor or associate researcher, especially in the field of biomedical, clinical and technological research.
c) Public institutes and services as well as governmental agencies aimed at promoting scientific research and training.

- Private institutions:
a) Industry: laboratories of pharmaceutical companies aimed at preclinical and clinical, and/or biotechnological research (to develop new drugs, medical devices and biotechnological products):
1. Production monitoring
2. Quality assessment
3. Management of products and processes.
b) Laboratories, agencies and institutes whose mission is to develop basic and clinical research.
