Presentation
This museum has its origins in the Museum of Natural History created by Duke Francesco III d'Este in 1776. In the nineteenth century, it was further developed thanks to the donations of the Dukes of Este, and to the acquisition of numerous zoological collectionsproduced by many members of the institute’s teaching staff, including Antonio Carruccio and Antonio Della Valle, whose work entailed the expansion of the museum to the top floor of the Palace of the Rector. Further expansions were carried out, in particular in the first half of the twentieth century, mainly thanks to Guido Corni, who was appointed Governor of Somalia in 1929.
