How to apply for residence and Declaration of regular stay in REGGIO EMILIA

RESIDENCE - how to apply and required documents

Applicants must fill in the form “Dichiarazione di residenza” available on the website of Reggio Emilia municipality and, in particular:

Fill in all the fields marked with an asterisk and write the full address in Reggio Emilia (including the building number, flat number and floor, if any);

Indicate the type of accommodation (home ownership, rental agreement and so on).

Enclose a copy of:

  1. Valid Identity Card (front and back sides) or passport;
  2. Proof of enrolment;
  3. Financial Statement: document certifying adequate financial resources for the period of the residence in Italy (minimum € 467.65 per month or € 6,079.45 per year)
  4. Proof of Health Insurance Coverage which covers the risks of illness and injury on the Italian territory and which is valid for one year. If the course lasts less than one year, the Health Insurance Coverage should be valid for the same duration of the course
    OR
    European “S1” form that you must obtain PRIOR to your arrival in Italy, from the healthcare institution providing insurance coverage in your home country.

Attention: If you move your residence to Italy, you will no longer be covered by your National Health Service and your EHIC will no longer be valid abroad. Therefore, before moving your residence make sure that you can obtain an European “S1” form or a substitute form from the healthcare institution providing insurance coverage in your home country.

Note: Citizens from Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, the Republic of San Marino and Liechtenstein are treated as EU citizens.

Applicants must then send the filled form and the documents to the Registry Office (Ufficio Anagrafe) of the municipality of Reggio Emilia:

  1. By registered mail with return receipt (posta raccomandata A/R) addressed to Comune di Reggio Emilia, Servizi Demografici - Ufficio Anagrafe, via Toschi 27 - 42121 Reggio Emilia; or
  2. By email to residenza@comune.re.it (copy of the signed request and copy of the Applicant’s identity document or copy of the signed digitally); or
  3. By PEC (certified email) comune.reggioemilia@pec.municipio.re.it (copy of the signed request sent from the Applicant’s certified electronic email (PEC)).

Attention: the request and relevant documents cannot be handed to the Registry Office desks in person.

The procedure is completed in 45 working days, period within which the new residence will be confirmed subject to checks by the local Police.

Tax on waste (TARI, Tassa sui rifiuti): applicants moving their residence to a new address must comply with the local tax on waste by providing the relevant office with the correct documentation.
