Brief content description

The course is aimed at introducing students to the culture of two English-speaking countries: the United States of America and Ireland. For both, the focus will center first of all on critical readings of the culture, to be discussed from a historical as well as a contemporary perspective. Secondly, the two countries will be examined with regard to language issues at various levels, including the reading and interpretation of key texts produced in and distinctive of each country and an analysis of argumentative structures and genres of different kinds.
